Membership in the Association

Membership in the Association entitles you to attend general meetings, participate in recommendations for courses and to attend any of the courses offered (subject to class-size limitations).

Three terms of courses are offered – fall, winter and spring – and classes meet once per week for about two hours over a period of six to ten weeks. These courses are designed for your learning enjoyment without tests or exams. There is no cost for taking courses.

The membership fee effective Dec 6, 2011 is $135.00 annually, and is effective for one year from the term in which you join. No single-term option is available. You may join SCANS at any time during the year - you don't have to wait until Course Registration opens. You will be advised when your membership requires renewal.

Membership Payment Methods

SCANS offers three payment methods: by cheque, by cash or online, by secure PayPal.

By Cheque: Complete the Membership Application/Renewal Form and mail it with your cheque(s), made payable to SCANS, and mailed to SCANS, PO Box 33093, RPO Quinpool Centre, Halifax, NS B3L 4T6
Each membership application/renewal form must be accompanied by either a cheque for $135, two cheques of $67.50 or three cheques of $45 each.
If you send post-dated cheques, the date of the first cheque must be no later than the deadline for the current term registration. The other cheques must be dated within two months of the first cheque.

By Cash: Cash will be accepted at the Open Houses. Please call the SCANS office to arrange a time to pay in cash if you are not able to attend an Open House. You may print a Membership Application/Renewal Form ahead of time if you wish, or one will be available at the Open House or at the office (but do check the office open hours first).

By PayPal: A single secure instalment of $135 is available through PayPal (below). There is no need to complete a separate membership application/renewal form.
